parsing into individual pages and add them all using different URLs.
These constructed urls are generated from the source url with an
appended page=<pagenumber> attribute to the url get/post properties.
This will distinguish the different page entries. The search result list
will then replace the post parameter with a url anchor # mark which
causes that the original url is presented in the search result. These
URLs can be opened directly on the correct page using pdf.js which is
now built-in into firefox. That means: if you find a search hit on page
5 and click on the search result, firefox will open the pdf viewer and
shows page 5.
occurrences within the (web) page documents (not the document
last-modified!). This works only if the solr field dates_in_content_sxt
is enabled. A search request may then have the form "term on:<date>",
like
gift on:24.12.2014
gift on:2014/12/24
* on:2014/12/31
For the date format you may use any kind of human-readable date
representation(!yes!) - the on:<date> parser tries to identify language
and also knows event names, like:
bunny on:eastern
.. as long as the date term has no spaces inside (use a dot). Further
enhancement will be made to accept also strings encapsulated with
quotes.
notions within the fulltext of a document. This class attempts to
identify also dates given abbreviated or with missing year or described
with names for special days, like 'Halloween'. In case that a date has
no year given, the current year and following years are considered.
This process is therefore able to identify a large set of dates to a
document, either because there are several dates given in the document
or the date is ambiguous. Four new Solr fields are used to store the
parsing result:
dates_in_content_sxt:
if date expressions can be found in the content, these dates are listed
here in order of the appearances
dates_in_content_count_i:
the number of entries in dates_in_content_sxt
date_in_content_min_dt:
if dates_in_content_sxt is filled, this contains the oldest date from
the list of available dates
#date_in_content_max_dt:
if dates_in_content_sxt is filled, this contains the youngest date from
the list of available dates, that may also be possibly in the future
These fields are deactiviated by default because the evaluation of
regular expressions to detect the date is yet too CPU intensive. Maybe
future enhancements will cause that this is switched on by default.
The purpose of these fields is the creation of calendar-like search
facets, to be implemented next.
- snapshots can now also be xml files which are extracted from the solr
index and stored as individual xml files in the snapshot directory along
the pdf and jpg images
- a transaction layer was placed above of the snapshot directory to
distinguish snapshots into 'inventory' and 'archive'. This may be used
to do transactions of index fragments using archived solr search results
between peers. This is currently unfinished, we need a protocol to move
snapshots from inventory to archive
- the SNAPSHOT directory was renamed to snapshot and contains now two
snapshot subdirectories: inventory and archive
- snapshots may now be generated by everyone, not only such peers
running on a server with xkhtml2pdf installed. The expert crawl starts
provides the option for snapshots to everyone. PDF snapshots are now
optional and the option is only shown if xkhtml2pdf is installed.
- the snapshot api now provides the request for historised xml files,
i.e. call:
http://localhost:8090/api/snapshot.xml?urlhash=Q3dQopFh1hyQ
The result of such xml files is identical with solr search results with
only one hit.
The pdf generation has been moved from the http loading process to the
solr document storage process. This may slow down the process a lot and
a different version of the process may be needed.
thread pools will flush their cached (dead) threads after 60 seconds.
This will cause that YaCy now runs constantly withl about 50 threads,
about 100 at peak times. Previously, about 400 threads had been cached
and kept in a hibernation state, which caused that the numproc counter
in /proc/user_beancounters (exists only in VM-hosted linux) was as high
as the cached number of threads. This caused that VM supervisors
terminated whole VM sessions if a limit was reached. Many VM providers
have limits of numproc=96 which made it virtually impossible to run YaCy
on such machines. With this change, it will be possible to run many YaCy
instances even on VM hosts.

+fix charset parameter in metadataImageParser
+update start errMsgTxt to "java 1.7"
This is a modified genericImageParser adding tif (and psd) support even if java ImageIO plugin for tif is not installed in JDK.
Adds just tif and psd to the available parsers.
Uses the same library to extract metadata, so could eventually be merged with genericImageParser.
All detected metadata are added to the parsed document (potentially some more as with genericImageParser)
genericImageParser uses javax ImageIO, supported images depend on available plugins for ImageIO package (this is JDK installation specific). Jpeg, png and gif are availabel by default. Tif and others only on avalable plugin (in classpath).
Add supported image type dynamically on startup.
the parser initialization. To make the apk parser usable, the handling
of application type links had to be modified. Now all documents which
have not a parser attached are placed to the noload-queue while all
other documents are parsed using the associated parser class. This may
have side-Effects on other parsers and the display of different file
classes (images, apps, videos).
- type detection (rss/atom)
- init type parameter overwritten during parse, parameter obsolete
- detection by endtag changed to simpler first-tag evaluation
- channel image not used, removed related extra parser handling
- remove unused code (set/getImage) in rssfeed
- atom link extraction to account for possible multipe link tags
- spec limits link to one with rel="alternate" or one without rel attribute
not accounting for the follwing type & hreflang exception yet:
o atom:entry elements MUST NOT contain more than one atom:link
element with a rel attribute value of "alternate" that has the
same combination of type and hreflang attribute values.

changes because it extends the usage of the AnchorURL Object type which
now also has a different toString method that the underlying

generic parser but extracts links like the htmlParser. This should be
used for ASCII documents without known text format annotation like
source code files or json documents. Probably also good for xml files
without known schema.
After import the conent is never accessed but may take up a lot of disk space,
also the getLoadedOAIServer (which lists the files in surrogate out) is not used.
Making the surrogate.out obsolete. Removed keeping of xmls after import.
- some outboundlinks_anchortext_txt in index contain e.g. <span>text</span> or more tags,
remove all tags for text property (inline img tags are still parsed)
- added test case for above (to htmlParserTest)
- fix solr test case
This organizes all urls to be loaded in separate queues for each host.
Each host separates the crawl depth into it's own queue. The primary
rule for urls taken from any queue is, that the crawl depth is minimal.
This produces a crawl depth which is identical to the clickdepth.
Furthermorem the crawl is able to create a much better balancing over
all hosts which is fair to all hosts that are in the queue.
This process will create a very large number of files for wide crawls in
the QUEUES folder: for each host a directory, for each crawl depth a
file inside the directory. A crawl with maxdepth = 4 will be able to
create 10.000s of files. To be able to use that many file readers, it
was necessary to implement a new index data structure which opens the
file only if an access is wanted (OnDemandOpenFileIndex). The usage of
such on-demand file reader shall prevent that the number of file
pointers is over the system limit, which is usually about 10.000 open
files. Some parts of YaCy had to be adopted to handle the crawl depth
number correctly. The logging and the IndexCreateQueues servlet had to
be adopted to show the crawl queues differently, because the host name
is attached to the port on the host to differentiate between http,
https, and ftp services.
stack on html tag objects, not using a recursive parse-again method
which may cause bad performance and huge memory allocation. The new
method also produced better parsed image objects with exact anchor text
references.
a document. This is the upper limit for the clickdepth_i value which may
be shorter in case that the crawler did not take the shortest path to
the document.
- find best fittng identifier (url) by checking all given dc:identifier in record (many entries proviede several identifiers)
as identifier is currently a multivalued field use "getParams" in preference of splitting the 1st string by ";"
- add resolve DOI:... identifier via http://dx.doi.org/
introduced, it was also used for search facets. The generic search
facets are now deduced from generic solr fields which makes jena as tool
for facet semantics superfluous.
request into a separate thread and ignores the furthure result of a
request if that does not answer within the requested time-out. This is a
try to solve a problem with the peer-ping, which hangs whenever a peer
appears to be dead or blocked.
- the admin user name can be configured, in apiExec calls the default "admin" username is used.
TODO: the bin/apicall.sh script should likely take that into account.
a dublin core record inside of surrogate input files may now contain
tokens within the namespace 'md' (short for: metadata). The token names
must be valid withing the namespace of the solr field names. All
md-tokens inside of surrogate files then overwrite values within solr
documents before they are written to the solr index. This makes it
possible to assign collection names to each surrogate entry and also
ranking information can be added. Please see the example file.
the class org.apache.pdfbox.pdmodel.font.PDFont occupies 8MB of space
which cannot be cleaned if PDFont.clearResources is called.
The attempt to clean the class cache therefore causes that the class is
loaded and this cache is initialized with some rubbish. I tried to
prevent to instantiate this class by usage of a hacked findLoadedClass
call to the SystemClassLoader (which is protected ...).
Now, without using the PDF parser at all, 8MB of RAM space is not
occupied, however, when the first PDF arrives this space will be taked
and never given back to GC.
WAKE UP YOU LAZY PDFBOX HACKER AND FIX THIS SHIT!
the right content domain (i.e. identifying that it is an image, text
etc.) because it used the file extension and not an existing mime type
assignment.
- fixed the new setting that images shall be loaded for a better image
search.
- both fixes together makes it now possible to crawl
commons.wikimedia.org which makes use of 'funny' document names (i.e.
ending with .jpg while the document is html)
for anchor attributes.
- this caused that large portions of the parser code had to be adopted
as well
- added a counter target_order_i for anchor links in webgraph
computation
all unique links! This made it necessary, that a large portion of the
parser and link processing classes must be adopted to carry a different
type of link collection which carry a property attribute which are
attached to web anchors.
- introduction of a new URL class, AnchorURL
- the other url classes, DigestURI and MultiProtocolURI had been renamed
and refactored to fit into a new document package schema, document.id
- cleanup of net.yacy.cora.document package and refactoring
html meta fields to get a correct (or: better) date timestamp. The
http:last-modified mostly does not work because it is set to the current
date from most CMS.
in intranets and the internet can now choose to appear as Googlebot.
This is an essential necessity to be able to compete in the field of
commercial search appliances, since most web pages are these days
optimized only for Google and no other search platform any more. All
commercial search engine providers have a built-in fake-Google User
Agent to be able to get the same search index as Google can do. Without
the resistance against obeying to robots.txt in this case, no
competition is possible any more. YaCy will always obey the robots.txt
when it is used for crawling the web in a peer-to-peer network, but to
establish a Search Appliance (like a Google Search Appliance, GSA) it is
necessary to be able to behave exactly like a Google crawler.
With this change, you will be able to switch the user agent when portal
or intranet mode is selected on per-crawl-start basis. Every crawl start
can have a different user agent.
- use ordered list to use preferred parser for mime/extension first (relates to html, rdfa, argument parser)
- harmonize xhtml extension config for the 3 html base parsers
note: stream.close is done by caller (Textparser.parseSource)
- removed unnecessary reset in AugmentParser
- added stream.mark in tdfatripleimpl. to make stream.reset work here
-- for some documents genericParser grabs document instead of specific available parser due to unordered pick of 1st to try parser
(like .ps .rdf files and other)
- remove redundant file extension registration
jdk-based logger tend to block
at java.util.logging.Logger.log(Logger.java:476) in concurrent
environments. This makes logging a main performance issue. To overcome
this problem, this is a add-on to jdk logging to put log entries on a
concurrent message queue and log the messages one by one using a
separate process.
- FTPClient uses the concurrent logging instead of the log4j logger
without the file extension. This part of the file path is removed from
the multi-field url_paths_sxt, which has now not the file name as last
part of the path list.
The same applies to the new fields source_file_name_s and
target_file_name_s in the webgraph schema.
- check geolocation coordinates and accept only those, which are
well-formed
- the solr push process does not stop crawling any more if after 20
requests to Solr Solr does not accept the record. Instead, a severe log
entry asks the user to create a bug request
- added the field in crawl profile
- adopted logging end error management
- adopted duplicate document detection
- added a new rule to the indexing process to reject non-matching
content
- full redesign of the expert crawl start servlet
The new filter field can now be seen in /CrawlStartExpert_p.html at
Section "Document Filter", subsection item "Filter on Content of
Document"
- an existing ranking servlet for solr was extended. It is now possible
to set boost values for fields, boost functions and boost queries.
- The ranking can have different instances, but currently only the first
one is used
- added an abstraction layer for fields which can be used for search and
those fields can be edited in the solr ranking configruation
- the ranking value from solr within the field score is used to combine
remote search requests, which all are created using the same locally
defined boost values
- reduced the number of fields which are used for search (makes it
faster)
- replaced some text fields by string fields (makes indexing faster)
- removed classes which had no use
- made a large number of experiments for a better ranking and created a
temporary setting which prefers hits inside titles
- adjusted also the RWI-based ranking computation to 'prefer title'
- made special cases like for portal search where no post-processing and
post-ranking is wanted: this keeps the original ranking order as done by
Solr
- fixed many bugs with old settings for ranking
The default schema uses only some of them and the resting search index
has now the following properties:
- webgraph size will have about 40 times as much entries as default
index
- the complete index size will increase and may be about the double size
of current amount
As testing showed, not much indexing performance is lost. The default
index will be smaller (moved fields out of it); thus searching
can be faster.
The new index will cause that some old parts in YaCy can be removed,
i.e. specialized webgraph data and the noload crawler. The new index
will make it possible to:
- search within link texts of linked but not indexed documents (about 20
times of document index in size!!)
- get a very detailed link graph
- enhance ranking using a complete link graph
To get the full access to the new index, the API to solr has now two
access points: one with attribute core=collection1 for the default
search index and core=webgraph to the new webgraph search index. This is
also avaiable for p2p operation but client access is not yet
implemented.
- migrates all entries in old urldb
Metadata coordinate (lat / lon) NumberFormatException still relative often (see excerpt below),
- added try/catch for URIMetadataRow (seems not to be needed in URIMetaDataNode, as Solr internally checks for number format)
- removed possible typ conversion for lat() / lon() comparison with 0.0f, changed to 0.0 (leaving it to the compiler/optimizer to choose number format)
current log excerpt for NumberFormatException:

- any system supporting opensearch specification can be configured
- search query is only forwarded to remote system if not enough results available on local peer
- discover function provided, checking the local Solr index for links to opensearchdescription files, to add to the config
- sample config file with some general search engines with opensearch support
This uses an enhanced version of the Nutch/Solr TextProfileSignatue.
As a result, a signature of the document is written to the solr search
index. Additionally for each time when a signature is written, it is
checked if the singature exists already in the index. If the signature
does not exist, the document is marked as unique. The unique attribute
can now be used to sort document lists and bring duplicates to the end
of a result list.
To enable this, a large portion of the search api to Solr had to be
changed. This affected mainly caching of 'exists' searches to enhance
the check for existing signatures and do this without actually doing a
solr query.
Because here the first time a long number is used as value in the Solr
store, also the value naming in the YaCySchema had to be adopted and
normalized. This caused that many files had to be changed.
the actual data which is fetched from solr.
- used the new field options to reduce generic options like getting the
load date or the count of search results. should increase overall speed
- used the new field options to reduce overhead in the host browser
during aquisition of links.
- used the field options to make checking of links in crawler faster
- if the crawler is paused, the crawl queue is not cleaned
superfluous. The target is to make a solr document as the core of YaCy
documents which would cause that many conversions can be removed. On the
way to this target the Equivalence of URIMetadataRow and URIMetadataNode
had to be removed to expose the usage of the old URIMetadataRow data
structure.
This refactoring already removes unneccessary conversions and should
make memory usage during indexing lower.
MultiProtocolURI during normalform computation because that should
always be done and also be done during initialization of the
MultiProtocolURI Object. The new normalform method takes only one
argument which should be 'true' unless you know exactly what you are
doing.
on the jaudiotagger library. The parser is disabled by default as it
needs to store temporary files for non file:// protocols, which might be
disliked. For your local MP3-collection it loads nicely Artist,
Title, Album etc. from the audio files meta data.
This can be used to add another stemming to solr using stemming files
that are expressed as synonyms for grammatical alternatives. The
synonym/stemming files must have the following form:
- each line is a comma-separated list of synonyms
- the list of synonyms may be enclosed with {} (like the GSA synonyms
file)
- the file may contain comments which are lines starting with a '#'
The synonym file(s) must be placed in DATA/DICTIONARIES/synonyms/ and
are activated by default whenever a synonym file is in place.
Then, for each word that is found in a document all synonyms are added
to a long text field which is stored into synonyms_t. Processes using
the synonyms must query with that field as optional matcher.
title_count_i, title_chars_val, title_words_val
description_count_i, description_chars_val, description_words_val
- added many asserts to ensure data type correctness from YaCy to Solr
and vice versa
- made many fixes according to new findings from these asserts (!)

of the major CPU users during snippet verification. The class was not
efficient for two reasons:
- it used a too complex input stream; generated from sources and UTF8
byte-conversions. The BufferedReader applied a strong overhead.
- to feed data into the SentenceReader, multiple toString/getBytes had
been applied until a buffered Reader from an input stream was possible.
These superfluous conversions had been removed.
- the best source for the Sentence Reader is a String. Therefore the
production of Strings had been forced inside the Document class.
A limit was necessary because some web pages have such huge numbers of
links that it can easily cause a OOM just by the number of links.
The quesion if the number of 1000 links is sufficient or too weak must
be answered with the result of testing this feature.
- vocabulary annotation is not done any more into the metadata of urldb
- vocabularies are written into the jena triplestore using a rdf
vocabulary
- vocabularies for rdf tripel must be updated; refactoring done
- with the new navigation tags in the triplestore a faster
pre-urldb-lookup is possible: navigation is processed now within the RWI
during pre-ranking retrieval
- added also a Owl vocabulary stub to add the plain-text url to the
triplestore using the owl:sameas predicate
later
- added abstract add, delete, get methods in the triplestore
- added generation of triples after auto-annotation
- migrated all MultiProtocolURI objects to DigestURI in the parser since
the url hash is needed as subject value in the triples in the triple
store
rewrite engine to customize existing webpages. originally implemented by
Florian Richter.

- search results are only computed for the map boundary
- the number of results is adopted to the results in the visible range
- added a double-buffering for the search result markers
- added a search query option for the search results:
