As reported by davide on YaCy forums (
http://forum.yacy-websuche.de/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=6004 ) when the
system is on high load, unless reading carefully YaCy configuration
file, it could be difficult to understand why remote search results are
not fetched.
- ensure use of HTTP POST method : HTTP GET should only be used for
information retrieval and not to perform server side effect operations
(see HTTP standard https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc7231#section-4.2.1)
- a transaction token is now required for these administrative form
submissions to ensure the request can not be included in an external
site and performed silently/by mistake by the user browser
As mentioned in issue #103, control settings over YaCy disk usage
already existed but lacked a user-friendly way to set them.
I added it to the Performance_p.html administration page with a little
refactoring on the "Resource Observer" fieldset for improved
accessibility and HTML standards respect.
Also added the possibility to enable/disable the autoregulation fonction
from this page.
When starting a crawl from a file containing thousands of links,
configuration setting "crawler.MaxActiveThreads" is effective to prevent
saturating the system with too many outgoing HTTP connections threads
launched by the crawler.
But robots.txt was not affected by this setting and was indefinitely
increasing the number of concurrently loading threads until most ot the
connections timed out.
To improve performance control, added a pool of threads for Robots.txt,
consistently used in its ensureExist() and massCrawlCheck() methods.
The Robots.txt threads pool max size can now be configured in the
/PerformanceQueus_p.html page, or with the new
"robots.txt.MaxActiveThreads" setting, initialized with the same default
value as the crawler.
to make all readily available information from the original ServletRequest
available to YaCy servlets (without converting data to internal structures).
The implementation of the common interface allows easier integration of
YaCy servlets with the servlet standard (e.g. shared login service with
the servlet container etc.)
- they are incomplete and buggy
- it was not easy to explain
- it did not comply with a KISS strategy
- setting a performance of low priority actually caused crashing of a
peer
- there was nobody who would maintain that functionality
processes in favor of throwaway-processes. The control mechanism does
less often report a 'queue full' message to the busy loop which then
does not perform a long busy waiting; instead all requests are queued
and new loader processes are started if necessary up to a given limit
(as set before)
The resource observer is now able to recognize free disk space AND
available space for YaCy. The amount of space which is assigned for YaCy
are defined in new settings in the configuration file.
Furthermore, there is now a cleanup process which deletes files in case
that an autodelete is activated. The autodelete is now BY DEFAULT ON if
the disk space is low, which means that YaCy starts to delete documents
when the disk is full!
- introduce a YaCyHttp interface to modulize/separate http server
- adjust the Jetty version specific implementation part (in package net.yacy.http)
- putting the version specific code in classes starting with Jetty8xxxx
- moved existing Jetty9xxx implementation into a test class (to keep the code)
- adjust build to the changed jars
- make use of the introduced YaCyHttpServer interface in related htroot servlets
- adjust other test cases/classes
in intranets and the internet can now choose to appear as Googlebot.
This is an essential necessity to be able to compete in the field of
commercial search appliances, since most web pages are these days
optimized only for Google and no other search platform any more. All
commercial search engine providers have a built-in fake-Google User
Agent to be able to get the same search index as Google can do. Without
the resistance against obeying to robots.txt in this case, no
competition is possible any more. YaCy will always obey the robots.txt
when it is used for crawling the web in a peer-to-peer network, but to
establish a Search Appliance (like a Google Search Appliance, GSA) it is
necessary to be able to behave exactly like a Google crawler.
With this change, you will be able to switch the user agent when portal
or intranet mode is selected on per-crawl-start basis. Every crawl start
can have a different user agent.
- reduced danger that a non-existing RWI database causes NPEs
- added Solr queries to did-you-mean: this makes it possible that our
did-you-mean algorithm works together with only Solr and without RWIs
or will be superfluous or subject of complete redesign after the
migration to solr. Removing these things now will make the transition to
solr more simple.
the segments had been there to create a tenant-infrastructure but were
never be used since that was all much too complex. There will be a
replacement using a solr navigation using a segment field in the search
index.
You can toggle between previous (standard) and new (generation) strategy at PerformanceMemory_p.html.
The generation memory strategy is implemented with the objective of running more robust
but with the cost of early stopping some tasks (eg. dht) while running low on memory.
This new strategy does respect the generational way a heap is organized on most used jvms.
These changes run fine on my 3 peers for weeks now, but as I'm human, I may fail.
Please be carefull using generation memory strategy and report errors by naming
OS, jvm and java_args.

- 300 ppm is default now (but this is switched off by default; if you switch it on you may want more traffic?)
- better timing for busy queue
- better amount of remote url retrieval
- better time-out values
- better tracking of availability of remote crawl urls
- more logging for result of receipt sending

the home path can now be distinguished between
- data home; the path where the DATA directory is created
- application home; everything else
This will make it possible to store application data on Mac releases within the
~/Library/YaCy
directory; a place where Mac applications write their data.
Similar techniques will be possible for debian and windows.
To use the new data path, YaCy can be started with
-start <data path>
or
-gui <data path>

- move the header framework classes to cora
- move the ARC caching classes to cora
- refactoring of code to call these classes from cora

- the scheduler extends the option for re-crawl timing. Many people misunderstood the re-crawl timing feature because that was just a criteria for the url double-check and not a scheduler. Now the scheduler setting is combined with the re-crawl setting and people will have the choice between no re-crawl, re-crawl as was possible so far and a scheduled re-crawl. The 'classic' re-crawl time is set automatically when the scheduling function is selected
- removed the bookmark-based scheduler. This scheduler was not able to transport all attributes of a crawl start and did therefore not support special crawling starts i.e. for forums and wikis
- since the old scheduler was not aber to crawl special forums and wikis, the must-not-match filter was statically fixed to all bad pages for these special use cases. Since the new scheduler can handle these filters, it is possible to remove the default settings for the filters
- removed the busy thread that was used to trigger the bookmark-based scheduler
- removed the crontab for the bookmark-based scheduler

- now xms is lower than xmx (lets try what happens)
- removed default path for intranet crawl starts to avoid confusion as seen on linuxtag
- added time-out to upnp request (i have a new router which may need that)

This is a major change in the organization of indexes.
Please consider a back-up of your data before you run this update.
All existing index files will be moved and renamed to a new position.
With this change, it will be possible to maintain different indexes for different purposes and it will be possible to have a distinction between DHT-in and DHT-out specific indexes. Tenants may also have their own index, and it may be possible to have histories and back-ups of indexes. This is just the beginning, many servlets must be adopted after this change, but all functions that had been there should still work.
