The date is taken from the CONTENT of the documents / web pages, NOT
from a date submitted in the context of metadata (i.e. http header or
html head form). This makes it possible to search for documents in the
future, i.e. when documents contain event descriptions for future
events.
The date is written to an index field which is now enabled by default.
All documents are scanned for contained date mentions.
To visualize the dates for a specific search results, a histogram
showing the number of documents for each day is displayed. To render
these histograms the morris.js library is used. Morris.js requires also
raphael.js which is now also integrated in YaCy.
The histogram is now also displayed in the index browser by default.
To select a specific range from a search result, the following modifiers
had been introduced:
from:<date>
to:<date>
These modifiers can be used separately (i.e. only 'from' or only 'to')
to describe an open interval or combined to have a closed interval. Both
dates are inclusive. To select a specific single date only, use the
'to:' - modifier.
The histogram shows blue and green lines; the green lines denot weekend
days (saturday and sunday).
Clicking on bars in the histogram has the following reaction:
1st click: add a from:<date> modifier for the date of the bar
2nd click: add a to:<date> modifier for the date of the bar
3rd click: remove from and date modifier and set a on:<date> for the bar
When the on:<date> modifier is used, the histogram shows an unlimited
time period. This makes it possible to click again (4th click) which is
then interpreted as a 1st click again (sets a from modifier).
The display feature is NOT switched on by default; to switch it on use
the /ConfigSearchPage_p.html servlet.

Use contentdom=image and inurl: parameter to make showPicture link display something (open in new window because of used inurl modifier changes original query)

- this allows to use opensearch heuristic on individual search request (in contrast to configuration HEURISTIC_OPENSEARCH=true which sends a osd request on all global searches

- since specific heuristic Twitter & Blekko is not longer available or redundant with OpenSearchHeuristic,
adjusted ConfigHeuristic to use OpensearchHeuristic settings only.
For this the default OSD search target list is made available (copied) by default and the other configs are removed.
- the return of QueryGoal.getOriginalQueryString includes the queryModifier, which are held separately in a modifier object,
but in most (all) cases just the query term is expected, clarified and renamed it to QueryGoal.getQueryString which returns
just the search term (if needed a .getOrigianlQueryString could be implemented in Queryparameters, adding the modifiers)
- started to adjust internal html href references from absolute to relative (currently it is mixed).
For future development we should prefer relative href targets (less trouble with context aware servlets)
switch between p2p search and the 'stealth mode' which is simply a
non-p2p search within the p2p network. The functionality was there all
the time, but the switch to this was not very visible.
4.0.0 there is a new softcommit feature which implements a
near-real-time (NRT) search option. The softcommit does not do IO and
does not cause performance issues.
YaCy has now an extension in its solr connectors to use the softcommit
feature. The softcommit call now replaces all places where a hard commit
was used. Furthermore the commit strategy in when doing a search from
the web interface was changed (it's done every time before a search is
done).
The softcommit feature was implemented because it was needed for the
following changes (customer demands), which is also included in this
git commit:
- added a feature to identify all documents which have unique titles
and/or unique descriptions. These unique flags are disabled by default.
- added also a feature to set a flag when the url from a canonical tag
is equal to the document url. This is also disabled by default.
To support the new softcommit strategy, the commitWithinMs option was
set to -1 do disable automatic commit based on document insert times. If
documents are inserted permanently then also a commit would happen
permanently whenever the commitWithinMs time is reached. This would
conflict with the regular autocommit of 10 minutes and the new
softcommit strategy.
This uses an enhanced version of the Nutch/Solr TextProfileSignatue.
As a result, a signature of the document is written to the solr search
index. Additionally for each time when a signature is written, it is
checked if the singature exists already in the index. If the signature
does not exist, the document is marked as unique. The unique attribute
can now be used to sort document lists and bring duplicates to the end
of a result list.
To enable this, a large portion of the search api to Solr had to be
changed. This affected mainly caching of 'exists' searches to enhance
the check for existing signatures and do this without actually doing a
solr query.
Because here the first time a long number is used as value in the Solr
store, also the value naming in the YaCySchema had to be adopted and
normalized. This caused that many files had to be changed.
need regular expressions as search attributes. They had now been removed
from the advanced search page while they are still created internally.
The filter is then expressed against solr as regular expression filter
query. If the expression points out a selection of an specific protocol,
host or filetype this is then translated into a facetted query.
- removed strict authentication (if password is empty; this was buggy and not useful; can be switched on if necessary globally and not for each interface method)
- increased speed of CrawlResults page (no dns lookup any more)
- increased speed of favicon display (removed dns lookup)

- removed the plasma package. The name of that package came from a very early pre-version of YaCy, even before YaCy was named AnomicHTTPProxy. The Proxy project introduced search for cache contents using class files that had been developed during the plasma project. Information from 2002 about plasma can be found here:

We stil have one class that comes mostly unchanged from the plasma project, the Condenser class. But this is now part of the document package and all other classes in the plasma package can be assigned to other packages.
- cleaned up the http package: better structure of that class and clean isolation of server and client classes. The old HTCache becomes part of the client sub-package of http.
- because the plasmaSwitchboard is now part of the search package all servlets had to be touched to declare a different package source.

- The indexing queue was a historic data structure that was introduced at the very beginning at the project as a part of the switchboard organisation object structure. Without the indexing queue the switchboard queue becomes also superfluous. It has been removed as well.
- Removing the switchboard queue requires that all servlets are called without a opaque generic ('<?>'). That caused that all serlets had to be modified.
- Many servlets displayed the indexing queue or the size of that queue. In the past months the indexer was so fast that mostly the indexing queue appeared empty, so there was no use of it any more. Because the queue has been removed, the display in the servlets had also to be removed.
- The surrogate work task had been a part of the indexing queue control structure. Without the indexing queue the surrogates needed its own task management. That has been integrated here.
- Because the indexing queue had a special queue entry object and properties attached to this object, the propterties had to be moved to the queue entry object which is part of the new indexing queue withing the blocking queue, the Response Object. That object has now also the new properties of the removed indexing queue entry object.
